Crusader Kings 2 is a unique strategy game mostly because it has a lot of RPG elements in its gameplay, introducing a high degree of realism into the medieval setting. In CK2, diplomacy, spying, intrigues, blood feuds and marriage are far more important than the blunt tools of war, which would partially explain the popularity of the game.
